The aim of the work was also to get a general overview of the recorded testimonies from the region and the existing links between the current and displaced populations. The contribution of the project would be a micro-historical probe into the development of life in one valley against the backdrop of historical events, and to capture the experiences and stories of the memorialists for posterity. Climate and settlement dynamics based on comparison of dendroclimatic and archaeological data of South Bohemian holocene.
VOBEJDA, Libor
The environment is influenced by the ever changing system of interacting forces. Changes in the climate are amongst many crucial factors that determine life conditions on Earth. All organisms have to cope with the environmental changes and humans are no exception. This thesis is focused on description of climate changes during the Holocene geological epoch. The climate is delineated based on proxy datasets. South Bohemian proxy data, mainly tree ring chronology, are used as primary sources for the reconstruction of past climate. These proxy datasets are complemented by various climatic reconstructions covering the area of central Europe. In order to assess the connection of past human societies to climate, a comparison between climate and settlement proxies is conducted. As an example of the settlement proxies we can list relative population density and location of dwellings. Target populations are agricultural prehistoric and historic societies.

Mačková, Marcela ; Bouzek, Jan (advisor) ; Musil, Jiří (referee)
1 Abstract This diploma thesis describes domestic architecture in the western Black Sea area in the time range between two half of the 6th century and the first half of the third century BC. Geographically, the studied settlement is located mainly in today's Bulgaria and on the coast Romania and Ukraine. Locations in the northwestern Black Sea area (e.g. Olbia, Berezan) have (in the Greek colonies in their neighborhood) much better preserved domestic architec- ture than sites in the western Black Sea area. The work is historical and culturally divided into Greek and Thracian settlement. Based on a comparison is made interpretation of the above mentioned settlements. The aim was to characterize individual sites, interpret and compared with each other, or finds analogous parallels especially in the Greek world. The work should refer to the func- tioning of domestic architecture (or the whole domestic urban), as in Greek cities in defined areas of the western and northwestern Black Sea area, and in places that were inhabited by the original (Thracian) population. Paleoenvironmental evolution around Lake Ohrid in the context of ancient settlement
Koubský, Karel ; Hošek, Jan (advisor) ; Abraham, Vojtěch (referee)
Lake Ohrid, the oldest lake in Europe, is an ideal place to study the response of the terrestrial ecosystems to many climatic and environmental changes during the Quaternary. It is also a useful source of information regarding the interactions between man and environment during the Holocene - this applies especially to the Late Bronze Age period and the beginning of the Iron Age, when there were profound changes in landscape management and when lakeside settlements were suddenly abandoned, which is also evident in the palaeobotanical record. This work summarizes the existing knowledge on this issue and presents various possibilities for studying paleoenvironmental development in this area. Key words: Holocene - Lake Ohrid - paleoenvironmental reconstruction - settlement - Bronze Age
